10 MAY

All The Pretty Horses (M): National. Columbia. Drama. Matt Damon, Henry Thomas, Penelope Cruz, Lucas Black.  Another of those epic westerns with lots of endless longing stares, much shagging and sad happenings.

The Hundred Steps (I Cento Passi) (M): Selected: Melb only. Place. Drama. Luigi Lo Cascio, Luigi Maria Burruano, Lucia Sardo. *subtitled*.  A polliticized view of the Mafia, apparently.

The Limey (MA): Selected: Sydney, May 17: Melbourne. Other state to follow. Fox. Drama. Terrance Stamp, Peter Fonda, Lesley Ann Warren, Luis Guzman, Joe Dallesandro, Melissa George.  Gritty crime flick, of obsession and revenge from top director Steven Sodenberg.  Originally released in 1999, but is only being released now.

Monkeys Mask (R): Selected: Bris, Melb, Syd. Footprint Films. Mystery. Susie Porter, Kelly McGillis, Marton Csokas.  A erotic story about a female PI investigating a crime in the poetry underworld.  Its got some hot lesbian action, too, so order those tickets today.

The Mummy Returns (M): National. UIP. Adventure. Brandon Fraser, Rachael Weisz, John Hannah. Sequel to the  blockbuster action adventure, or a sensitive parent-offspring drama? You decide.

Risk (MA) Selected. Roadshow. Drama. Bryan Brown, Tom Long, Claudia Karvan. Aussie thriller movie set in the world of insurance scam, with lots of car crashes thrown in for good measure.

17 MAY

Fifteen Minutes (MA): National. Roadshow. Thriller. Robert De Nero, Edward Burns, Vera Farmiga, Kelsey Grammer. Two tough cops are up against a couple of media obsessed Russian psychos.   Hopefully the film goes for longer than 15 minutes.

The Way of The Gun (MA): Selected. Buena Vista. Thriller. Ryan Phillippe, Benicio Del Toro, James Caan, Juliette Lewis. Two stupid criminals kidnap Lewis who is being paid $1 Million to be a surrogate mother. Of course, it all goes wrong.

What's Cooking (M): Syd, Brisb. New Vision. Drama. Joan Chen, Julianna Margulies, Mercedes Ruehl.  Follows a day in the life of four families from different ethicity- Africa, Latino, Jewish and Vietnamese- Americans.

24 MAY

3000 Miles To Graceland (R): Selected. Roadshow. Thriller. Kevin Costner, Kurt Russel, Christian Slater, Courtney Cox. A group of morons (which include Slater, oddly enough) plan to rob a Casino during Elvis week, dressed as Elvis.  Of course, it all goes wrong and they mostly die (including Slater, yay!). Costners the bad guy, BTW.

Elvis: That's The Way It Is (G): Selected: Bris, Syd. Melb: May 27. Adel/ Perth: May 31.  Potential Films.  Music concert.  Elvis Presley.  Elvis concert film, re-released and digitially removed 20 kg's off Elvis.  Also, they added some music that's worth listening to.

Joe Dirt (M): National. Columbia. Comedy. David Spade, Brittany Daniel, Dennis Miller, Adam Beach, Christopher Walken.  Spade headlines this movie as a trailer-trash media hero, out to find his parents for better or worse (worse of course, being a comedy, and the lowest form of comedy too).

Moulin Rogue (M): National.  Re-released about a dozen times, including March 2002.  Fox. Musical. Ewan McGregor, Nicole Kidman, Christina Anu, John Leguizamo.  Singing and choreographed dance scenes, complicated and elaborate costumes- this is 1899 Paris, where Satine (Kidman) is given gifts from suitor Christian (McGregor)- which are incredibly similar to modern songs.  Visually spectacular, too, as they all say.

Whipped (MA): Selected.  Roadshow. Comedy. Amanda Peet, Brian Van Holt, Judah Domke. Dating comedy, about a group of horny guys (is there any other type?) who fall for the same woman.  Who will get the babe? Who will sit though this extremely poorly reviewed movie?

31 MAY

A Ma Sour! (Fat Girl) (R): Selected- Brisbane, Sydney, Melb. Potential. Anais Reboux, Roxane Mesquida, Liberdo De Rienzo *subtitled* Its subtitled. Its about something, but no-one on the face of the earth knows because its in some language only the cast speaks.

Head Over Heels (M): National. UIP. Comedy. Freddie Prinze Jnr, Martia Potter, Shalom Harlow, China Chow, Sarah O'Hare. Five young models live together in a NYC apartment and try to find the perfect man. Sounds intellectual, gripping and hard-hitting.

Monkeybone (M): National (Syd, Melb, Brisbane). Fox. Comedy. Brandan Fraser, Bridget Fonda, Chris Kattan, John Turturro, Whoopi Goldberg A cartoonist gets into a car crash, and his creation Monkeybone takes over his mind while in a coma. Monkey!

Serenades (M): Selected. Palace. Drama. Alice Haines, Aden Young. Aussie pretentious drama about a girl who was born to an Aboriginal mother and an Afgan father.  Que lots of funny camera angles, "angst" and lots of use of the colour blue.

Sensitive New Age Killer (MA): Selected. Tidepool Films. Action. Paul Moder, Kevin Hopkins, Helen Hopkins. Aussie action film, but its also a comedy.  Stars a wannbe hitman, who gets into some pretty silly situations.  Contains lots of lovely violence (was rated R but a cut version will be released)

Series 7 (R): Selected- Capitals.. Dendy.  Comedy. Brooke Smith, Glenn Fitzgerald, Marylouise Burke, Michael Kaycheck, Richard Venture. A big screen movie where its just another one of those damn reality shows- except the objective is to kill all the other contestants instead of sleeping with them.
