MOVIES RELEASED JUNE 2001 AUSTRALIA

7 JUNE

Freddie Got Fingered (R): Selected. Fox. Comedy. Tom Green, Harland Williams, Rip Torn, Connor Widdows, Marisa Coughlan, Eddie Kay Thomas. Top animal humping action with Tom "Animal sex" Green directing and starring as a complete f-wit. Received interesting reviews, with most agreeing its the worst movie of all time.

Pearl Harbour (M): National. Buena Vista. War. Ben Affleck, John Harnett, Cuba Gooding Jnr, Jon Voight, Alec Baldwin. Action and romance aplenty in this US$140 million action blockbuster thing, with plenty of explosions to be seen.  Historical accuracy, no.

State And Main (M): Selected. Palace. Comedy. Alec Baldwin, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Julia Styles, Charles Durning, William H Macy, Sarah Jessica Parker.  A movie infiltrates a small town, but not all goes well- a horny lead actor, a lead actress who won't do nudity and the centrepiece of the movie -'The Old Mill' was destroyed years ago.

14 JUNE

The Dancer (M): Selected: Perth. Fox. Romance. Mia Faye, Garland Whitt, Rodney Eastman. A mute dancer is helped by a scientist, who develops some shoes that help her talk (!?)

House of Mirth (M): Selected. Columbia Tristar. Drama. Gillian Anderson, Eric Stoltz, Dan Aykroyd, Laura Linney, Anthony LaPagia. Tragic love story set in turn of the century New York.  Its more about stiff upper lips than anything else being stiff though.

Josie And The Pussycats (PG): National. Fox. Comedy. Rachael Leigh Cook, Tara Reid, Rosario Dawson, Parker Posey, Alan Cumming. Cartoon adaption (loosely), its about a three member pop group that gets too caught up in advertising everything under the sun, they forget their morals (or is that percentage?).

Rififi (PG): Selected. Potential Films. Jean Servias, Carl Mohner, Robert Manuel. Followed by a sequel, Sififi.  Damn these things just write themselves.

Russian Doll (M): Selected. Beyond. Comedy. Hugo Weaving, David Wenham, Rebecca Firth, Sacha Horler, Natalia Novikova.  A man makes a difficult decision to marry his best friends mistress to keep her in the country.  Its set in Sydney's Russian-Jewish community, so you know its gonna be a blockbuster.  Or at least available in one soon.

Sugar And Spice (M): National. Comedy. Rachael Blanchard, James Marsden, Melissa George. Top cheerleader gets preggers so she and her best friends turn to crime to support her baby.  As you do.

21 JUNE

Pokemon 3: The Movie (G): Qld. Vic June 28. Other states July 5. Roadshow. Voices: Veronica Taylor, Eric Stewart. Ash has to rescue his mother from a crystal tower. Followed by Pokemon 4: Straight To Video.

Recess: The Movie  (G): Qld.  28th June: Vic. 5th July: Rest of Aust.  Buena Vista. Animation. Voices: Jason Davis, Pamela Segal, Melissa Joan Hart, James Woods.

Shrek (PG): National. UIP. Animation. Voices: Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, John Lithgow. A nasty ruler has banished all the fairy tale characters from the land, and its up to Shrek (Myers) to save them, as well as the cursed princess (Diaz). A PG level cartoon with something to offer adults too.

Tomb Raider (M): National. UIP. Anglina Jolie, Daniel Craig, Jon Voight, Noah Taylor, Chris Barrie, Leslie Phillips. A sexy artefact collector (Jolie) with a lot of "ass"ets, puts her best chest forward, with lots of action.  Expect lots of action, shaking of booty and booby, and more action, a few corny jokes and some more action thrown in for good luck.

28 JUNE

Beau Travail (PG): Selected. Potential Films.

The Crimson Rivers (MA): Selected. Columbia. Jean Reno, Vincent Cassel, Nadia Fares, Dominique Sanda. Its a river. Its crimson. You can guess the rest (actually you probably can't).

Guinevere (M): Selected: Melb, Syd.  Palace. Drama. Sarah Polley, Stephen Rea, Jean Smart, Gina Gershon. Much delayed released this one had had.  Its a typical love drama between a young girl and a older photographer.

Mullet (M): Selected. Dendy. Comedy. Ben Mendolson, Susie Porter, Andrew S Gilbert, Belinda McClory. A small NSW fishing town is disrupted when a former football hero comes back and finds he's not as popular as he thought he was. Quirky Ozzie comedy (is there any other type?)

Swordfish (M) National. Roadshow. Drama. John Travolta, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Don Cheadle, Vinnie Jones. A computer hacker is after $6 billion in unused Government funds.  Lets hope it doesn't follow the usual rule with technology-based movies- they suck.  Also, watch out for Berry's US$1 million 'bonus'.

When Brandon Met Trudy (M): Selected. Romantic Comedy. Peter McDonald, Flora Montgomery, Marie Mullen. English romantic comedy about a thief and a teacher.
