The Gleaners And I: Two Years Later 5 & 6 July

Jaffas Down The Aisle Film Festival July 2 - 6. Myers Place, Melbourne.  Gremlins, Top Gun, Footloose, Tank Girl, Dead Poets Society. Hosted by comedians. Lots of short films.  Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon (G): Selected, Melb. Dist: H. Lal & Associates Pty Ltd. 1 screen. 197 mins. C: Chinatown Cinema.  India. Romance. Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor, Reema Lagoo, Johnny Lever. D: Sooraj R Barjaliya. Like his earlier films, Sooraj R. Barjatya's latest film the story follows the same beaten path, of two guys falling in love with the same girl. But Sooraj's handling of this oft-repeated subject is what makes all the difference. A shy and reticent NRI tycoon, Prem Kumar (Abhishek Bachchan) is due to fly to India to finalise a deal and meet his prospective bride, Sanjana (Kareena

Kapoor), a pouting, shouting, doubting Jane. Following last minute hiccups in plans, Prem's childhood pal, current employee and namesake, the gregarious Prem Kishen (Hrithik Roshan)makes the trip instead. Sanjana is drawn towards the him in due course. When the original Prem, a poetry-loving young man of few words, arrives on the scene with his doting mom (Reema Lagoo) and eccentric secretary (Johnny Lever),the plot thickens and has been handled well with finesse. It's Kareena with the looks of a princess, who infuses Sanjana with a bit of mischief, dollops of sensuality and a lot of sensitivity. She is definitely a cut above the two Prems. Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon is a Sooraj. R. Barjatya's show all the way. FROM 3 JULY
